Botanical name:Pennisetum orientale 'Karley Rose'

'Karley Rose' is the most significant of the Fountain Grasses. It is known for its decorative, rose purple plumes that move elegantly in the wind. It can be used in containers. 'Karley Rose' is a cold hardy variety that holds its blooms throughout the season. Tolerant of both drought and partial shade, this fountain grass has winter interest and has no major pest or disease issues.

This ground cover will grow 1-3' tall and has medium-size green leaves with purple or blue flowers that can bloom all year.

New Zealand Flax is an excellent accent plant for the garden. Evergreen leaves are long, narrow, and grow upright. Clusters of flowers grow on spikes above the foliage in late spring and summer. 'Rainbow Warrier' grows 3-4' tall, 5-6' wide. Leaves are darker salmon, turning cream as they age. Foliage turns deep red in winter.

Trailing Lantana

Botanical name:Lantana montevidensis

Lavender flowers accent the trailing growth habit of this lantana. It is excellent for spilling over walls or down banks. Eventually will reach about 2' tall by 6' wide, size controlled by pruning and severity of winter. Full sun, drought tolerant. Native of South America. A rapid grower. Tolerates heat, smog and poor soil. Cold hardy to mid 20s but quick recovery. Fruit poisonous. Very attractive to butterflies.

Trailing Germander

Botanical name:Teucrium X lucidrys

This mini-shrub with small, shiny, dark green leaves on woody stems can be sheared and shaped. The stems trail and rise to 24", with lovely, reddish purple flowers between the upper leaves. It can be used as a low hedge plant in herbal knot gardens. To encourage branching, it should be pruned in the spring. -Holland WIldflower Farm
